FOXTEL Selects Irdeto’s Content Management Solution to Power New Online Initiative

Australian pay-TV operator invests in new content management and workflow engine to enhance entertainment offerings and premium content on new media platforms

Singapore, 08 July 2009 – Irdeto, a leading expert in content and business model protection solutions and services, today announced that FOXTEL has selected its cutting-edge content management solution to protect a range of online content initiatives under development. Under this new partnership, FOXTEL, Australia’s leading subscription television provider, will offer subscribers enhanced entertainment offerings and premium content on new media platforms that include downloads to PCs.

“We’re delighted to have found a partner in Irdeto that will help us drive viewers’ interest in our products and bolster our entertainment offering via alternative delivery platforms,” said Patrick Delany, executive director of sales and product development at FOXTEL. “For our planned download initiatives, Irdeto has been a one-stop shop, with excellent knowledge of the technical and business challenges we face in the provision of online media services.”

FOXTEL was challenged to integrate new online delivery systems while ensuring current workflows and systems functioned without interruption during the transition. Additionally, the company’s range and volume of video and metadata coming from various internal and external sources needed careful synchronization with online services. Irdeto established simple but powerful custom interfaces so only a small team is needed to ingest, repurpose and publish hundreds of hours of broadcast content across a wide variety of formats, enabling delivery to FOXTEL online services, partners and elsewhere.

Under the deal, Irdeto will deploy its platform at FOXTEL’s Sydney headquarters, with modules that include:

  • Syndication to facilitate video and metadata ingest from FOXTEL’s own and third party channels;
  • Publish to automate the workflow needed to schedule, transcode and distribute live and on-demand premium content on popular platforms including PCs, mobile phones and iPods;
  • Control for studio-strength Digital Rights Management (DRM);
  • Monetize to support transaction management; and
  • Download Control to provide a near DVD viewing experience on consumer PCs.

“We have built a solid reputation as the go-to solutions partner for operators seeking new ways to manage and deliver their premium broadcast content to new media platforms and to further strengthen their market share,” said David Canellos, senior vice president of Irdeto Sales and Marketing. “Irdeto’s content management solution provides FOXTEL with a platform to deliver enhanced services and entertainment options to a sophisticated audience in a highly competitive television and home entertainment market.”
